Overland Environmental is an independent, field-based practice in North Arlington, Texas. We help property owners, HOAs, property managers, and buyers understand what is going on with their land and water before they decide what to do about it.
Gary built Overland on a lesson from healthcare. Like people, properties develop problems, and the wise first step is to understand the symptoms and the cause before starting treatment. In healthcare he saw too many patients who had been misdiagnosed or had diagnosed themselves while the real problem went untreated. Land and water work the same way. Treating what's visible without knowing why it's happening wastes money and can leave the real issue in place.
Most people call us when something seems wrong but the cause is not clear. A pond is losing water. Algae keeps coming back. Water shows up where it shouldn't. Grass won't grow. Or there is a question about a property before buying it. We start with your question, look at the site, gather the information that actually matters, and explain what we found in plain language. That includes what is still uncertain and what a reasonable next step would be. Our past work includes HOA canals and ponds, irrigation ponds, shallow rural ponds, ponds that stopped holding water, drainage and runoff questions, and pre-purchase checks on rural property.
We don't sell treatments, repairs, or construction, so a sale never shapes what we tell you. When the fix is simple, like a blocked culvert or an unplugged aerator, we'll often just take care of it when that's quicker and cheaper for you. Sometimes the answer is that nothing needs to be done yet, or that a condition is worth watching before you spend money. When a question needs an engineer, a certified lab, or a contractor, we will tell you and help you figure out who to call.
Overland Environmental is a small, owner-run company. Gary Merchant spent his first career as a chief executive in healthcare management. After retiring, he taught secondary-school science, which rekindled a lifelong love of the outdoors and an interest in better ways to care for soil and water. Owning a small ranch taught him firsthand what upkeep really involves. Over the years he has seen family and friends run into the same problems on their own land. Gary holds a master's degree in education.
Alice brings a long career in commercial real estate and is a Master Gardener. She knows how closely a property's value is tied to how well it's assessed, managed, and maintained, and she understands the questions owners and investors face.
We're based in North Arlington and work within about 50 miles, and farther for the right project. North Texas has its own conditions: clay soils, uneven rainfall and drought, hot summers that pull pond levels down, and fast development that changes how water moves across land. We take those local conditions into account.
You don't need to know which service you need. Call or text 214-810-0060, or email info@overlandheritage.info.
